The museum was inaugurated on 1 April 2011 by Franco Fossati Foundation, which manages it with the aim of appraising the so-called ninth art, and hosts permanent and temporary exhibitions, cultural events, shows and interactive workshops. The many posters of Snoopy, Mafalda, Lupo Alberto, Lupin and Tex hung by the entrance door will throw you into your childhood.
Spazio WOW is located in viale Campania 12 and it’s housed inside a building erected in 1926 as ATM’s (Milan’s public transport company) storage; in 1960 it became a factory owned by Motta, a company that produces sweets and ice-cream. In 1985 Motta was shut down and the building was neglected until 2010 when the Franco Fossati Foundation restored it and turned it into a multi-functional space. The ground floor section is free and hosts temporary exhibitions and a library with over 9000 books.
The first floor is a large open space that hosts exhibition with paid admission. We recommend visiting the section about the commixture between different comics. The Museo del Fumetto is also a meeting point and a pleasant place to spend some time: many activities for children and adults are arranged here, such as drawing courses, writing workshops and interactive workshops. If you’re lucky and the weather is nice we recommend stopping by the small park surrounding Spazio WOW where there’s a colourful skateboard rink, much used by the kids of that neighbourhood.
