Poldi Pezzoli Museum

Founded in 1879 by the art collector Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli, it is one of the most important European house museums and it is located in Via Manzoni inside Porta Palace, close to Scala Theatre. The collector’s aim was to furnish a family palace with the most amazing art pieces and all rooms had been thought to be precious containers for ancient masterpieces expressly conceived to guard paintings and furnishings.

All along the exhibition itinerary, which is structured in numerous rooms in nineteenth century style, you can appreciate important paintings of the nineteenth century and some masterpieces of Italian Renaissance. Among the most famous paintings, you will see Portrait of Young Woman by Pietro del Pollaiolo, The Mother and the Child and The Dead Christ Mourned by Botticelli.

Poldi Pezzoli Museum, Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, Necchi Campiglio Villa and Boschi di Stefano House Museum constitute the Milan Historic House Museum Network. In via Manzoni Grand Hotel e de Milan is located where in Giuseppe Verdi died in 1901.
